Montgomery’s schools are in a crisis and imminently risk the loss of accreditation. This outcome would devastate our ability to prosper, and we must act now to correct our course and move forward together. Read more(0) CommentsTuesday, May 29, 2018Local elected officials and business leaders joined with Alabama Governor Kay Ivey today to celebrate the announcement by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama LLC President and CEO Dong Ryeol Choi that Hyundai is investing $388 million to construct a plant dedicated to manufacturing engine heads and to enhance existing operations and support production of new models of Sonata and Elantra sedans. (HPT) has announced a $33 million expansion of its Montgomery facility resulting in the creation of 86 new jobs. The expansion will enable the company to establish a "Smart Factory" and increase production of its power transformers by more than 60 percent. The expansion will include a newly-constructed training facility that will contribute to fostering an advanced labor force, taking the company one step closer to achieving its plan of generating $200 million in revenue by 2021. Read more(2) CommentsThursday, April 12, 2018Common Bond Brewers, Montgomery's first production brewer opens its doors Saturday, April 14 at 424 Bibb Street in downtown Montgomery in the former home of Lowe’s Auto Parts. Residents can finally satisfy their curiosity about the project and are invited to stop in and see the transformation that has taken place in the 72-year old building. Common Bond Brewers will be officially opening its doors to the public from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, with regular hours to begin next Thursday, April 19 (Thursday, 4-10p.m.; Fridays & Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.). The taproom is family friendly, with board games inside and corn hole outside and lots of room on its back and front patios for catching-up with friends and neighbors over a pint or a tasting flight. For the grand opening, the brewery will have its flagship four beers—a rye amber, a blonde ale, an IPA and a pale ale—available on tap or to carry out in 32 oz. cans or 64 oz. glass growlers.
