Strategically located at the intersection of Interstate 65 and Interstate 85, Montgomery is the capital city of Alabama and the second largest city in the state. The metropolitan area, comprised of Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery counties, has a population of 374,000. A region of vast economic diversity, Montgomery is home to state and regional governments, a major military installation, the USAF Air University, an extensive service industry, wholesale and retail trade, tourism, and an industrial base. The Chamber’s Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program launched as a result of the Imagine a Greater Montgomery initiative and is directly responsible for securing and growing over 10,500 announced jobs in the region’s economy since 2010. The Montgomery Chamber’s Existing Industry Program assists local companies with expansion plans and issues that affect the Montgomery area manufacturing and industrial community.
In 2017, Montgomery announced jobs and capital investment from new and expanding industries comprising 30 companies, 1,056 jobs and an investment of $204.9 million. Of the 30 increases in investment and employment last year, 24 are existing companies, demonstrating confidence and trust in the community by making the decision to grow here.
