Wednesday, May 29, 2019Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) and Lightsource BP announced today the development of a 130 MWDC / 100 MWAC solar energy project in Montgomery County, Alabama. Lightsource BP will finance, develop, build, own, and operate the solar facility and will deliver energy to AMEA under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project, situated 15 miles from AMEA’s headquarters in Montgomery, will supply clean energy to AMEA’s 11 Member utilities located across the state and will generate enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes. Read more(0) CommentsWednesday, May 22, 2019Today, TechMGM, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s (MACC) initiative to connect and leverage Montgomery’s unique technology assets, announced a partnership with the Air Force Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate Program Executive Office to host a new Air Force software development project that will offer private sector collaboration called BESPIN. Signifying a shift in the way the Air Force approaches software development and acquisition, BESPIN, an acronym for Business and Enterprise Systems Product Innovation, pairs in-house developers with private sector developers and uses an agile development methodology in a collaborative and innovative environment to turn projects into new solutions to support the Department of Defense. Read more(0) CommentsTuesday, May 21, 2019Travelers spent $972 million and were responsible for 13,817 jobs last year in Montgomery County, according to a report conducted for the Alabama Tourism Department by Montgomery economist Dr. Keivan Deravi. That figure represents a 15.5 percent increase in traveler spending on hotels, restaurants, shopping and transportation from 2017, the largest ever increase in traveler spending of any major Alabama county. Read more(0) CommentsWednesday, May 15, 2019Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and other elected officials joined Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, LLC (HMMA), in a celebration of the grand opening of HMMA’s cylinder head machining plant. The new plant is the third facility at HMMA to support production of more than 650,000 engines per year. The plant represents a $388 million total investment to manufacturing engine cylinder heads and also to enhance existing operations to support the production of new Sonata and Elantra sedan models. Rebuild Alabama will help fund projects across the state, fueling job growth and ensuring that the Montgomery region is able to successfully compete for new business, better support military and defense missions, strengthen existing small and large businesses, enhance tourism growth, and support the workforce. The Governor’s plan is a long-term solution to improve transportation infrastructure and will help to leverage federal funding opportunities for further infrastructure investment.
