On October 1, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, along with local leaders, kicked off its celebration of National Manufacturing Month with a virtual town hall on manufacturing featuring Mayor Steven L. Reed, County Commission Chairman Elton Dean, and Trenholm State Technical College Interim President, Anita Archie to recognize Montgomery’s diverse manufacturing sector and its significant economic impact on the River Region.

During a ceremony at the Alabama Capitol this afternoon, officials with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama (HMMA) said workers will assemble the Santa Cruz compact utility vehicle at the Montgomery facility, beginning in 2021. Hyundai said the $410 million investment will create additional 230,000 square feet of space in the stamping, welding and parts processing areas of the manufacturing complex. Today, the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, along with state and local elected officials, joined Gerhardi, Inc., at the grand opening of their Montgomery facility, its first in North America. The company has invested $41.6 million in the new facility which will employ up to 235 employees.
