MONTGOMERY, AL – The Central Alabama Sports Commission (CASC) today announced the hiring of Alvin Briggs as its new Executive Director. Briggs will lead efforts to recruit, develop, and enhance major sporting events in Montgomery and the Central Alabama region, strengthening the area’s reputation as a premier sports destination.

A native of Greenville, Alabama, Briggs has spent decades as both a coach and administrator in athletics across the state. He played football at Auburn University from 1983–1987 before beginning a distinguished coaching career at Greenville High School, Florence High School, and the University of North Alabama. His leadership in athletic administration includes serving as Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association from 2011–2018, Associate Executive Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) from 2018–2021, and Executive Director of AHSAA from 2021–2024.

“I am honored to step into this role and excited to build on the strong foundation already in place,” said Alvin Briggs, Executive Director of the Central Alabama Sports Commission. “The Central Alabama Sports Commission plays a vital role in bringing world-class athletic events to our region, which not only boosts our economy but also enhances the quality of life for our residents. I look forward to working closely with our partners in the City of Montgomery, Montgomery County, and others across the River Region to continue growing our sports tourism impact.”

“Sports tourism is one of Montgomery’s strongest drivers of economic growth and community pride,” said Mayor Steven L. Reed. “We look forward to working with Alvin Briggs and the Central Alabama Sports Commission to build on the momentum we’ve created together and to ensure even greater opportunities for our residents and businesses.”

“Few people understand this region’s sports landscape like Alvin Briggs,” said Brandon Dean, Director of Montgomery Parks & Recreation. “His connections and experience will boost sports tourism and position Central Alabama for premier events.”

The Central Alabama Sports Commission was created to attract, develop, and facilitate sports events and sports-related conventions in the central Alabama region, generating positive economic impact, improving quality of life, and enhancing the region’s public image. Briggs follows in the footsteps of the Commission’s previous Executive Directors, the late Dr. Ken Blankenship (2009–2016) and the late Johnny Williams (2016–2024).

The Central Alabama Sports Commission is a nonprofit regional organization dedicated to attracting, supporting, and growing sporting events in Montgomery and the surrounding area. CASC works in partnership with the City of Montgomery, Montgomery County, and other stakeholders to generate economic impact and enhance the region’s visibility as a sports destination.
