Montgomery, Ala. – June 5, 2025 – Chambless King Architects is proud to announce its inclusion on the prestigious A SOUTH FORTY list, an ongoing project by The Fay Jones School of Architecture & Design at the University of Arkansas. This recognition marks a significant milestone as Chambless King Architects becomes the first architecture firm from Alabama to be featured on the esteemed list.
Begun in 2020 following an essay in The Oxford American Journal titled ‘A South Forty: Architecture And Place In The American South,’ the A SOUTH FORTY list celebrates the top architecture firms in the Southern United States, highlighting those that have demonstrated exceptional design, innovation, and impact within the region.
The approximately forty participating practices represent 11 states and are geographically organized along US Highway 40, running west from the North Carolina Atlantic seacoast through the southeastern states and into Oklahoma. The selection process involves rigorous evaluation by industry experts and culminates in a curated exhibition at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
The exhibition seeks to bring to light the ways in which modern architecture in the South is moving beyond traditional typologies and stereotypes, underscoring the significance of place-based design and emphasizing the region's unique responses to rapid growth, natural disasters, and a more complex and diverse identity. The exhibit will remain on display until Winter 2026.
