Birmingham, Ala.—The annual Business Alabama Awards took place at luncheon in Birmingham on Friday, March 1, 2024.
- Elliot B. Maisel, Chairman and CEO of Gulf Distributing Holdings, LLC, was named Alabama’s CEO of the Year.
- Among a pool of five exceptional finalists from businesses across the state, Maisel was awarded the top executive in the state for 2024.
- Maisel has been at the helm at Gulf since the early 1990’s, when he took over management of the company from his mother and Gulf’s founder, Freida G. Maisel.
- Under Maisel’s leadership, Gulf has grown exponentially in both sales volume and revenue by partnering with additional beverage manufacturers and acquiring existing distributorships.
- This January, Maisel and Gulf announced a company-wide leadership restructure as well as payroll increases in multiple departments, committing to an additional annual $10 million investment into the company.
- Gulf opened a new 170,000 square foot warehouse facility in McCalla, Alabama in late 2022.
- Gulf announced a $25 million expansion of the former Mobile Press Register building in the heart of downtown Mobile, to become home to Gulf’s new distribution warehouse and corporate headquarters.
“The Business Alabama Awards are an opportunity to recognize some of the best that the Alabama business community has to offer,” said Alec Harvey, executive editor of Business Alabama magazine. “The winners and finalists show the depth and breadth of Alabama business, from North Alabama down to the Gulf Coast.”
Business Alabama took nominations for awards in seven categories, and a selection committee named finalists and a winner in each category.
