MONTGOMERY, ALA., March 14, 2024 – For the third year in a row, female workers at Four Star Freightliner gathered for a retreat to strengthen their bond, increase their knowledge in essential workplace skills, and learn important life-saving lessons.

"EmpowHERment" was the theme for the retreat held at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. on March 7 & 8. The idea came from the Human Resources Director Suzy Herring who said it is crucial for any organization to empower women in the workplace.

"Empowering the ladies at Four Star helps us to retain good talent," she said. "It also means that we'll be able to attract good talent as well. When a person is empowered, they are more likely to stay in their jobs for longer periods of time."

During Day One of the retreat, almost 30 of the 40 women at Four Star Freightliner engaged in meaningful conversations over dinner, reflecting on their lives and exchanging advice they would offer their younger selves.

The second and final day presented a blend of empowerment and skill-building. The day began with a thought-provoking class on conflict resolution led by Michelle R. Horvath, an attorney and ombudsperson. She provided invaluable insights and practical strategies to navigate conflicts effectively. The focus then switched to physical empowerment, with an engaging self-defense workshop led by Krav Maga Expert LD Thomas.

"What I love about our Women's Retreat is that it is totally organic," said Jerry Kocan, Four Star Freightliner Owner and Dealer Principal. "It started with our core group of women leaders as a way to share and support their teammates. It has grown and helped Four Star recognize ways to foster that culture as we continue to support our current future women leaders."

Herring agreed stating, "Empowering women also means we are fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are valued. Women bring unique insights and ideas to the table, leading to innovation and creativity."

The women of Four Star serve in their roles in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. They serve in different capacities from executive leadership to customer-facing roles in the parts, service, and sales departments.
