MONTGOMERY, AL — The City of Montgomery has been awarded the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2024, which ended on September 30, 2024.

This recognition is the highest form of acknowledgment in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The GFOA’s review concluded that Montgomery’s financial report demonstrates a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed praised the achievement.

“This award reflects our unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial stewardship," Reed said. It’s a testament to the hard work of our finance team and city leadership who ensure that Montgomery’s finances are managed with integrity and clarity. We’re proud to set a standard that builds trust with our residents and partners.”

The City’s finance team, led by Finance Director Betty Beville, prepared the report in accordance with the highest standards of governmental accounting principles.

“Receiving this award is a proud moment for our department and the City of Montgomery. It affirms our dedication to excellence in financial reporting and our responsibility to the public," Beville said. "We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of transparency and fiscal integrity.”
