Council adopts ordinance requiring masks or face coverings in public in Montgomery
The Montgomery City Council Tuesday, July 7, adopted an ordinance sponsored by Councilman C.C. Calhoun requiring face coverings, masks or face shields to be worn in public places in Montgomery to slow the spread of COVID-19.
NEW! Governor Ivey Extends the Mask Mandate and Current Health Order till March 5
Governor Kay Ivey issued her twenty-second supplemental emergency proclamation extending the Safer at Home Order that includes a statewide mask requirement. Individuals will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order. This order extends until Friday, March 5, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

NEW! Congress Passes $900 Billion in New COVID Aid
In December 2020, Congress approved an additional $900 billion worth of COVID relief that provides $600 stimulus payments to individuals, adds $300 to extended weekly unemployment benefits, and provides more than $300 billion in aid for small businesses.

The Small Business Administration in consultation with the U.S. Treasury Department has resumed the Paycheck Protection Program. First draw PPP loan applications will initially be accepted by CFIs, which include Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs), Certified Development Companies (CDCs), and Microloan Intermediaries.

ALBME and MLC Institute Emergency Medical Licensing Procedures
The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners and the Medical Licensure Commission have adopted emergency administrative rules and procedures allowing for the emergency licensing of qualified medical personnel. These measures will allow physicians and physician assistants who possess full and unrestricted medical licenses from appropriate medical licensing agencies to apply for and receive temporary emergency licenses to practice in Alabama for the duration of the declared COVID-19 health emergency. Physicians with retirement waivers will be able to obtain emergency reinstatement of their licenses without completing the 25 credits of continuing medical education that would normally be required.
