Alabama Governor Kay Ivey and other elected officials joined Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, LLC (HMMA), in a celebration of the grand opening of HMMA’s cylinder head machining plant. The new plant is the third facility at HMMA to support production of more than 650,000 engines per year. The plant represents a $388 million total investment to manufacturing engine cylinder heads and also to enhance existing operations to support the production of new Sonata and Elantra sedan models. The City of Montgomery has earned its place as one of five Smart Cities Readiness Challenge winners thanks to the collaborative efforts of a team comprising the City, County, Montgomery Public Schools, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and Alabama Power Company. By winning the Smart Cities Readiness Challenge, Montgomery will receive global recognition, new development opportunities and access to a year-long technology program. Read more

The Chamber strongly supports Governor Ivey’s Rebuild Alabama Act and has joined with the State’s “Big 5” major metro area chambers of commerce to form a coalition of support around this critical issue. The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce believes that improved infrastructure is a top priority critical to economic development and the overall quality of life of citizens. Rebuild Alabama will help fund projects across the state, fueling job growth and ensuring that the Montgomery region is able to successfully compete for new business, better support military and defense missions, strengthen existing small and large businesses, enhance tourism growth, and support the workforce. The Governor’s plan is a long-term solution to improve transportation infrastructure and will help to leverage federal funding opportunities for further infrastructure investment. Read more

TechMGM, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s initiative to connect and leverage Montgomery’s unique technology assets, provided hands-on STEM experiences to 200 students at the annual CampIT held on March 1, 2019 at Alabama State University. Sessions on cloud computing, cybersecurity, website design, robotics and more were given by industry leaders for students to learn, participate and engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Information Technology activities. This year’s event also featured an announcement by Alabama State University, the hosting educational institution of the upcoming Montgomery BEST Robotics Competition to be held from October 18-19, 2019.
