MONTGOMERY, ALA. (April 4, 2024) – Genesis Inspiration Foundation today generously awarded Alabama Shakespeare Festival $50,000 in support of its mission to create compelling educational and outreach programs, such as its Young Southern Writers Program, Fall Festival of Shakespeare, summer camps, classes, and SchoolFest student matinee program.

“We are honored to receive this award and grateful to Genesis Inspiration Foundation,” said Todd Schmidt, Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s executive director. “Alabama Shakespeare Festival believes arts education fosters lifelong success by providing experiential lessons in critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, leadership, and character. Arts education is a critical component of ASF’s mission and its programming. This generous award enables ASF to continue to inspire and enrich the classroom and life experiences of students through theatre and the dramatic arts.”

“Genesis Inspiration Foundation is dedicated to empowering young people across the nation to discover the profound impact of the arts within their communities,” said John Guastaferro, executive director, Genesis Inspiration Foundation. “We are honored to support Alabama Shakespeare Festival in our joint effort to broaden access to youth arts education, foster creativity, and open doors to a world of possibilities.”

Leadership from Genesis Inspiration Foundation, Genesis Motor America, and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama attended the grant award presentation, where local students who participate in ASF’s theatre programs presented short works by and based on Shakespeare as well as musical theatre selections. Attendees ended their visit with a tour of ASF’s shops and studios, where set pieces, costumes, wigs, properties, and crafts are made for each production on its two stages each season.
