Stokes Elected to Alabama Power Board of Directors
Charisse Stokes, Executive Director for the Montgomery Chamber’s TechMGM initiative, has been elected to the board of directors of Alabama Power, effective February 1. Stokes also serves as president of Tidal IT Solutions, an information technology consulting company headquartered in Montgomery specializing in providing business development, tech and innovation strategy, and support services to clients worldwide.
Stokes is a recognized community leader serving on the AFCEA International board of directors, Trenholm State Community College and Faulkner University Computer Science advisory boards, College of Business advisory board at Auburn University at Montgomery and the Saint James School board of trustees. In addition, she lends her time to the United Way and the Pure Artistry Community Outreach Garden and was recently appointed to the Business Council of Alabama board of directors and executive committee.
MAO Chief Executive Retires and Interim Named
In the fall of 2021, Medical Advocacy and Outreach (MAO) embraced yet another milestone moment in the life of a not-for-profit—the departure of a much-admired leader, in this instance, the resignation of Michael R. Murphree, LICSW, from the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Murphree leaves an indelible mark on MAO. Ashley M. Tarrant, MPH, MAO’s Chief Operations Officer (COO), was appointed Interim CEO effective January 1, 2022.
Bradley Welcomes New Associates
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP has added new associates to its Montgomery office, Lillie A. Hobson and Anna Akers Hornsby. Hobson is an associate in the Litigation Practice Group. Hornsby is a member of the Healthcare Practice Group, where she represents a variety of healthcare providers in regulatory and litigation matters, including audits, recoupments and medical malpractice claims.
Justin Smitherman Promoted to Chief Technology Officer of Palomar Insurance Corporation
Justin Smitherman has been promoted to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Palomar Insurance Corporation. Smitherman’s responsibilities include the development of technology strategies and the management of complex technologies for Palomar. He will also serve as the executive liaison for technology to the Palomar Board of Directors. Smitherman started his career with Palomar in 2011 and was promoted to IT Director in 2013.
Michael P. Carlson Joins Trustmark
Michael P. (Mike) Carlson has joined Trustmark as Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of Trustmark National Bank and will be responsible for Trustmark’s compliance and risk functions. Carlson has more than 30 years of experience, with his most recent leadership role being EVP and Deputy General Counsel for another large financial institution, with an emphasis on legal, operational and regulatory risk management strategies.
Trustmark Makes Promotions
Michael A. (Mike) King, Senior Vice President, has been named General Counsel for Trustmark National Bank. He most recently served as Trustmark’s Senior Legal Counsel and has more than 30 years of experience in the legal and banking industry with Trustmark. He currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Trustmark Investment Advisors, Inc. and is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, American Bankers Association, etc. Abria B. Flowers has been promoted to Assistant Vice President at Trustmark in Montgomery, where she is a Community Lending Specialist. Flowers has nine years of banking experience and is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Junior League of Montgomery and Montgomery Rotary Club.
Caddell Construction Announces Promotions
Caddell Construction has announced three key promotions among senior leadership. Ricky Byrd has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Commercial. Angela Crosby has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Compliance and Ethics. And Jaime Andress has been promoted to Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. According to President and Chief Operating Officer Mac Caddell, the new positions are a reflection of individual achievement and excellence, as well as an indicator of the company’s past and future growth.

Joslyn B. Daniels, P.E. of Blackburn Daniels O’Barr, Inc., a structural engineering firm in the River Region, has been named President for 2022 of the Structural Engineers Association of Alabama (SEAoAL). She is President of Blackburn Daniels O’Barr, Inc. and also teaches as an Adjunct Professor at Tuskegee University in the Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture and Construction Science.
