MONTGOMERY – Mayor Todd Strange today launched Montgomery’s bike share program along with representatives from the program’s sponsors: Baptist Health, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and Wind Creek Hospitality. The official ribbon cutting took place at the bike share stand located at Riverwalk Stadium. The bike share network features 11 locations and a fleet of 55 bicycles.
“Bike share will add to the quality of life in Montgomery and also make our city more tourist-friendly,” said Mayor Strange. “I’m especially appreciative of our generous sponsors who are underwriting the program so that no taxpayer dollars are necessary.”

Micro-mobility vendor Pace is operating the bike share program. Stations span prominent locations throughout Montgomery’s city-center, including: the Rosa Parks Library/Museum, First White House of the Confederacy, City Hall, Renaissance Hotel & Spa, Old Alabama Town, Morgan Library, Kress on Dexter, Wright Brothers Park, the Alley and the Intermodal Parking Deck.

The Pace platform supports secure, lock-to parking for bikes, enabling users to borrow a bike from a dock and return it at another station in the same system. Pace currently operates more than 250 micro-mobility vehicle shares across 35 states. The company will have local support personnel in Montgomery.
Bike shares are most successful when combined with proactive bicycle and pedestrian planning. As one of only a few Alabama cities recognized by the League of American Bicyclists’ Bicycle Friendly America program, Montgomery's planning and engineering departments continue implementing plans to develop bicycle and pedestrian friendly facilities throughout the city.
