BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Dec. 6, 2019) – The Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama and the Business Council of Alabama today announced the twelve “Alabama Small Business of the Year” and “Emerging Small Business of the Year” award winners during the CCAA-BCA annual meeting here.
Winners were awarded at three levels, Gold Award, Silver Award and Bronze Award in four different categories, Emerging, 1-10 employees, 11-50 employees and 51-100 employees.
In the Emerging category the Gold Award recipient was Mixtroz located in Birmingham. The Collegiate Hotel located in Auburn was recognized with the Silver Award. The Bronze Award recipient was Vinehouse Nursery located in Alabaster.
In the 1-10 employee category the Gold Award recipient was Covington Eye Care located in Opp. The recipient of the Silver Award was The Fairhope Store located in Fairhope. Reseda Nursery located in Madison was the recipient of the Bronze Award.
The 11-50 employee category the Gold Award recipient was Monroe Sausage located in Beatrice. Recognized as the Silver Award recipient was Tower Homes located in Birmingham. The Bronze Award recipient was WhiteSky Communications located in Northport.
In the 51-100 employee category the Gold Award recipient was Dixie Electric, Plumbing & Air located in Montgomery. The Silver Award recipient was The Hound in Auburn, and Larry Puckett Chevrolet located in Prattville was recognized as the Bronze Award recipient.
“Alabama’s Small Business of the Year” awards presented annually by the BCA and the CCAA recognize small businesses in employee-number based categories. They are considered to be the state’s very best small businesses based on a variety of civic and professional standards. The Emerging Small Business of the Year award is the fourth award given each year.
This year 41 small businesses were named as finalists for “Alabama’s Small Business of the Year” awards. All of the award finalists were recognized and honored at the CCAA/BCA Partnership Annual Meeting/Luncheon at The Harbert Center in Birmingham.
In 2003, the grassroots efforts of CCAA were strengthened when The Partnership was formed between the BCA and the CCAA. The BCA/CCAA Partnership is the first of its kind in the United States and has become a model for other states. Together, the two groups represent the interests and concerns of over 1 million working Alabamians.
In the “Emerging Small Business of the Year” category – operating less than 5 years – the finalists in alphabetical order were CakEffect, The Little Cake Shope With A Grand Effect, Hoover; First Metro Bank, Athens; GadRock Microgym, Gadsden; Launch Trampoline Park, Prattville; Premier Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Troy; Sterling Packaging, Monroeville; The Pecan on Broad, Camden.
The “Alabama Small Business of the Year” finalists in the 1-10 employee category were Billy’s Seafood, Bon Secour; Bo Evan Realty, Prattville; Brittani Morris State Farm Insurance Agency, Alabaster; Cajun Creations, Monroeville; Charming Oaks, Auburn; Coast-to-Coast True Value, Camden; Coosa Behavioral Services, Gadsden; Kerby Custom Renovations, Loxley; Southern Gyp Boutique, Bay Minette; Stewart Lodges, Loxley.
“Alabama Small Business of the Year” finalists in the 11-50 employee category were Byron’s Smokehouse, Auburn; CopperLeaf Properties, LLC, Rainbow City; Crow Shields Bailey PC, Mobile; First Community Bank of Central Alabama, Prattville; KATS Delivery, Alabaster; Morell Engineering, Athens; Pine Belt Wireless, Camden; Rare Transportation, Birmingham.
“Alabama Small Business of the Year” finalists in the 51-100 employee category were 280 Animal Medical Center, Westover; Amedisys Hospice of Rainbow City, Rainbow City; BCM Morring, Inc., Mobile; Englewood Health Care Center, Monroeville.
