  • Montgomery Public Schools Academic Continuity Overview

    • Share:
MPS is a place where we desire to have every student develop a love of learning, cultivate intellectual curiosity and dream of a future full of amazing possibilities. We are committed to providing guidance and support to our learners, and families.

    DELIVERY OF LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT

MPS will provide blended learning instruction and support to families, and will provide feedback to learners in relation to mastery of standards. Currently schools are conducting technology surveys, teachers will contact parents to determine if technology devices are available to students within their homes.  Our goal is to ensure we promote continuous learning during this time of crisis without adding further stress to our families.

Feedback relative to each child’s submitted work will be provided to parents in INow. This approach allows our families and learners to focus on learning, with the following serving as our primary goals:
    •  Support learners in the mastery of the Priority Standards as outlined by the Alabama State Department of Education.
    •  Facilitate to ensure continuous learning to help ensure our learners are as ready as possible to begin the 2020-2021 school year.
    •  All communication to families will be delivered either from the principal or the teacher. The district will provide general guidelines every school should follow.

    ATTENDANCE
As directed by State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey, formal student attendance will not be taken from April 6 through May 21.

    Seniors
All seniors who are on track to graduate and are in good standing as of the third nine weeks reporting period will have their final grades for the year reported by using the student’s third nine weeks grade. These seniors will be considered “graduates.” Seniors that wish to bring their grades up may communicate with their teachers.

All seniors who have not met the graduation requirements as of the third nine weeks reporting period will have to continue to work, and their final grades for the year will be reported by using the average of the first, second, and third grades with fourth nine-week assignments grade for end of year grade. Those students will be “graduates” if they satisfy all Carnegie units by May 21.

    K-11 Students
Final grades for the year for any student in Grades K-11 will be reported using the average of the first, second, and third nine-week grades with the fourth nine-week assignments. We will also provide an opportunity for a joint conversation with the principal, the teacher, and the parent/guardian to promote a student with the Pass/Fail Option. We believe during a time of crisis, this is the most equitable approach to support our students in the reporting of formal grades.

    Pre-K
The Office of School Readiness will be sending out enrichment activities for pre-K students.

    English Language Learners
MPS will continue to support English Language Learners by providing effective two-way communication with family
Our administrators, teachers, and service providers will explore options to appropriately and feasibly benefit, support, and continue the learning of each individual student.
Teachers and 504 Coordinator, to the extent possible, will provide services for all learners with disabilities, including learners with Section 504 plans.
Our dyslexia-specific interventionist will provide resources to continue serving each learner with this specific need.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Aside from the lessons and learning activities your teacher will provide, we are also happy to suggest web-based learning tools that are age-appropriate for your learner.  Speak with your child’s teacher for further information.
