The NIH R15 Project award provides $508,516 for our three-year study of entrepreneurship, emotional well-being, and financial stress among adults with Down syndrome and their primary caregivers at Auburn University at Montgomery.
Some adults with Down syndrome and their caregivers work together in a small business. We want to understand their experiences of responsibilities, financial stress, and well-being alongside those of families in other employment situations. Chamber members may know family enterprises that would be interested in contributing to this research.
We are inviting English-speaking adults aged 18 or older with Down syndrome and their primary caregivers, also aged 18 or older, to contact us. We hope to enroll 90 adult-caregiver pairs, including adults who are unemployed, work for an employer, or are involved in a business with their caregiver. Owning a business is not required. Our team will explain the study and confirm eligibility with each family.
Participation includes online questionnaires, with support available by Zoom. Members of the entrepreneurship group may also be invited to online group discussions. Participation is voluntary.
