MPS Welcomes Roseanna Smith and Monae Stevens to the MPS Communications Department
July 27, 2025Montgomery, Ala.-Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) is proud to announce the appointment of two experienced media professionals to lead the district’s communications and outreach efforts. Roseanna Smith Brewton has been named the Director of Communications, and Monae Stevens will serve as the district’s new Marketing and Community Development Manager.
Both women bring strong backgrounds in broadcast journalism, public relations, and strategic messaging, and both are familiar faces to many in the Montgomery community. Their combined expertise and deep connection to the River Region will play a pivotal role as MPS works to enhance communication, build trust, and engage families and stakeholders more effectively.
“We are honored to welcome aboard two very familiar faces to our MPS family and community,” said Dr. Zickeyous Byrd, Superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools. “Their extensive background in broadcast media and their familiarity with both the Montgomery community and our school district will be invaluable as we work toward our goal of enhanced communication and transparency. Our school community can look forward to receiving updates and stories through various media platforms, including our very own MPS Newscast and MPS Podcast.”
“The goal,” Dr. Byrd added, “is to create the kind of informative and community-centered feel you get when watching local news. Every week, families will be able to learn more about MPS through interviews with department heads, principals, employees, and even live broadcasts of athletic events. This is just one of many exciting and innovative efforts we’re launching to strengthen our connection with the community.”
Meet Roseanna Smith Brewton – Director of Communications
With over a decade of experience in journalism, public relations, and strategic messaging, Roseanna Smith Brewton brings a seasoned perspective to this vital leadership role. As Director of Communications, she will lead district-wide communications to ensure clarity, transparency, and engagement with all stakeholders.
Roseanna previously served as an anchor and reporter at WSFA 12 News, where she earned a reputation for connecting deeply with the community and reporting stories that matter.
“I am honored to join Montgomery Public Schools in this capacity,” said Roseanna. “I believe strong communication is the foundation of a successful school district, and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our stakeholders and ensuring every voice is heard and valued.”
Meet Monae Stevens – Marketing and Community Development Manager
As Marketing and Community Development Manager, Monae Stevens will focus on strengthening the district’s relationships with families, educators, and community members through thoughtful outreach and purposeful storytelling.
Monae brings a journalism background with experience at K8 News in Arkansas and WSFA 12 News in Montgomery, where she reported on education, public policy, and community issues.
“I’m honored to join Montgomery Public Schools in this role,” Monae shared. “A successful school district starts with winning the hearts and trust of its people—by listening first, communicating with purpose, and making sure every voice feels valued.”
Roseanna and Monae will continue the district’s commitment to build trust, transparency, and engagement through consistent, clear, and community-centered communication that promotes the success of Montgomery Public Schools.
