Montgomery, Ala - June 11th, 2025 — Montgomery Whitewater Park is proud to announce a continued partnership with the Alabama Power Foundation and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery to provide 200 local youth with exciting outdoor experiences this summer.

Thanks to the generous support of the Alabama Power Foundation, campers from YMCA branches across Greater Montgomery will participate in half-day adventure camps at Montgomery Whitewater throughout June and July. Now in its second season, this program opens the door for youth ages 8 to 15 to experience the outdoors in a safe, structured, and inspiring setting.

Each half-day camp is uniquely curated based on age and includes activities such as team-building challenges, scavenger hunts, environmental education, aerial ropes and zipline courses, and whitewater rafting. Campers are introduced to real-world STEM concepts as they explore how engineering and environmental sciences are applied in an outdoor setting, both through the design and operation of our pumped whitewater course, as well as through immersive, nature-based learning experiences within the Alabama River ecosystem.

Montgomery Whitewater’s youth-focused programs—ranging from summer camps to school field trips—aim to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and spark life-long passions. From water safety to leadership, these experiences enhance the overall well-being of the children and the community.

“Access to the outdoors should be a part of every child’s summer,” said Jason Wilson, Executive Director of Montgomery Whitewater. “Since opening in July of 2023, we’ve been committed to creating programs that introduce kids to paddle sports, outdoor education, and character-building experiences. Whether it’s learning to navigate a raft or facing fears on the ropes course, these moments help young people grow. We’re honored to work with Alabama Power and the YMCA to make that possible.”

“The Alabama Power Foundation is proud to support educational opportunities, regardless of whether those are in the classroom or in the outdoors,” said Leslie Sanders, Vice President of Alabama Power’s Southern Division. “This program is unique in that it combines outdoor recreation and character building with science and technology learning. Students will learn about water quality and the advanced technology behind water flows; they’ll also have outdoor classroom opportunities utilizing Whitewater’s

hiking trails and zip lines. We appreciate the partnership with Montgomery Whitewater and the YMCA to make this unique program a reality.”

AJ Hernandez, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, echoed the excitement. “We see firsthand the joy, confidence, and discovery that comes from a day at Montgomery Whitewater. Our partnership with the Alabama Power Foundation and Montgomery Whitewater aligns with our mission to nurture the potential of every child. Together, we’re creating life-changing summer memories and world-class experiences”.
