MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Faulkner University has announced the launch of 3 new engineering programs for fall 2026 designed to prepare students for high-demand careers while integrating faith, ethics and hands-on learning. The media is invited to schedule an on-campus visit to speak with the chair of the new Engineering and Computer Science Department as well as tour the updated facilities. Please contact rburylo@faulkner.edu to select a date.

The programs include: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and software engineering. A degree in computer engineering launched fall 2024. Each program is designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and practical experience needed for success in today’s rapidly evolving workforce.

“Faulkner University is committed to preparing students to lead with both skill and purpose,” said Mike Herridge, chair of the computer science department. “These new engineering programs reflect our mission by combining rigorous academics with Christian values and real-world application.”

Students enrolled in the engineering programs will benefit from small class sizes, mentorship-focused faculty and hands-on laboratory experiences. The curriculum emphasizes project-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students to tackle real-world challenges while building critical problem-solving skills.

Program coursework is aligned with industry expectations and licensure pathways, providing students with a strong foundation for engineering careers or graduate study. In addition, Faulkner offers career-focused support, including resume coaching, internship placement and access to an active alumni network.

Each program offers a specialized focus:

    • Mechanical engineering centers on the design and analysis of machines, structures and thermal systems, preparing graduates for roles in manufacturing, aerospace, energy and related industries.

    • Electrical engineering focuses on the generation, transmission and control of electrical systems, leading to careers in power systems, electronics and industrial automation.

    • Software engineering emphasizes the development of reliable and secure software, preparing students for roles in application development, systems design and DevOps.

    • Computer engineering bridges hardware and software, equipping students to design embedded systems, computing devices and advanced technology solutions.

Faulkner’s engineering programs also incorporate Christian values and ethical leadership into technical education, helping students develop both professionally and personally.

Graduates will be prepared for careers across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, energy, healthcare, defense and technology. The programs also position students for industry certifications and advanced study.
