Montgomery Zoo Celebrates 2025 Volunteers at Annual Banquet

MONTGOMERY ZOO (Montgomery, AL): The Montgomery Area Zoological Society and the Montgomery Zoo proudly honored its ZooTeens and Docent volunteers at the annual Docent Volunteer Banquet January 27, 2026. This event celebrated the dedication, passion, and countless hours these individuals contributed to the Education Department throughout 2025. Their commitment to conservation, education, and guest engagement continues to strengthen the Zoo’s mission and enrich the experience of every visitor.
This year’s celebration was all about how the education volunteers glow bright like neon lights, with guests arriving in neon colors and glowing attire. The event space was transformed into a glowing atmosphere that rivaled the spirit of the volunteers being recognized.
Several outstanding individuals received special honors for their exceptional service:- Docent of the Year – Heidi Gezzi: Heidi’s enthusiasm, leadership, and dedication have shone brightly over the past year. Her commitment to the animal ambassadors and our Education Department made her a standout among her peers.
- 30‑Year Pin Recipients – Kim Bath and Monty Burck: Kim and Monty were recognized for an incredible milestone of three decades of volunteer service. Their long‑term dedication has made a lasting impact on the Zoo community.
- 1000‑Hour Jacket – Allison Anderson: Allison earned her 1000‑hour service jacket, a testament to her remarkable commitment and the countless hours she has devoted to supporting the Education Department.
The celebration was made possible by the Montgomery Area Zoological Society who funded the evening. The Montgomery Zoo extends heartfelt appreciation to every volunteer who contributed their time and talents in 2025. Their service continues to make a difference for the animals, the staff, and the community.

The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum is a 42-acre zoological facility located minutes from the heart of historic, downtown Montgomery. The Montgomery Zoo features a variety of exotic animals native to Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America. A trademark addition of the Zoo is the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum, housing the one of the Southeast’s largest collections of preserved North American wildlife, artifacts, and fossils. The Montgomery Zoo is a department of the City of Montgomery.
Daily operating hours: 9:30am – 4:30pm, with last admission at 3:30pm.
Admission: Adults $19, Children (3-12 years) $15, Toddlers (2 years and under) FREE, and Seniors 65 years old and older $17.
