MONTGOMERY, AL — The City of Montgomery is proud to announce open enrollment for YouthBuild Montgomery (YBM), a dynamic pre-apprenticeship program designed to empower young adults ages 18 - 24 who have left school without a high school diploma. Funded by a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, YBM offers a pathway to education, career readiness, and community impact.

“This program is about more than just job training,” said Program Director Dosha Harris. “We’re helping young people build a future, whether that’s through college, apprenticeships, employment, or military service. We’re also giving them the tools to lead and serve their communities.”

    Program Highlights

    Education & Career Pathways
Participants will earn their high school equivalency while preparing for postsecondary opportunities including college, apprenticeships, and employment. Each cohort will receive 30 hours of program services per week over a 12-month period.

    Skills Training
YBM offers certifications in construction and advanced manufacturing, with participants splitting time between classroom instruction and hands-on vocational training.

    Leadership Development
The program fosters leadership through training, civic engagement, and decision-making opportunities. Participants learn to advocate for themselves and their communities, building accountability and collaboration.

    Community Service
YBM participants will rehabilitate affordable housing units for low-income or homeless families in Montgomery, gaining practical skills while giving back.

    Wraparound Support Services
YBM provides robust support including mentoring, personal counseling, job placement assistance, and follow-up education. Participants also receive a stipend to help with living expenses during the program.

    Eligibility & Application

Applicants must reside in one of the following Montgomery zip codes:
    36104, 36105, 36107, 36108, 36110, 36111, or 36116.
