TROY Montgomery dedicates statue and art exhibit

Three coverage opportunities took place on Troy University’s Montgomery Campus on Monday, Nov. 14.   The events began with a reception and ribbon cutting for the Montgomery Campus’ new Center for Student Success. The center is located in Rooms 327 and 329 in the Rosa Parks Library and Museum building.  Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor, Ray White, Vice Chancellor of the Montgomery Campus, and Breanna Gentry, the center’s Interim Director, took part in the ceremony. The center was made possible by a Title III grant through the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program.
 
The Peace Dove statue by the artist Nall, located beside the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts, was dedicated. The ceremony included Vice Chancellor Ray White, Mrs. Janice Hawkins, First Lady of Troy University, former Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange and TROY alumnus and former Executive Director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts Al Head.
 
University officials dedicated the Janet Nolan Art Exhibit “New York City in a Fountain” in honor of Dr. Jim Vickery, Professor Emeritus. The work is located in the lobby of Whitley Hall. Vice Chancellor White, Dr. Hawkins, Dr. Vickery and Ms. Sue Thompson took part in the dedication ceremony.
