W-2 Employees vs. 1099 Contractors
-
Hiring help is a milestone. Misclassifying that help is a bill.
The first time you bring somebody on, the question comes fast: are they an employee or a contractor? The answer changes your taxes, your payroll, your paperwork, and how much direction you are allowed to give the person doing the work.
Ken Penn with SBOSS breaks it down in plain terms. What actually separates a W-2 employee from a 1099 contractor, where small business owners most often get it wrong, and what to think through before you add anyone to your team.
This is an introductory session. No accounting background needed. If you are hiring soon, already paying somebody and not sure you set it up right, or just planning ahead, this hour will save you a headache later.
Presented by Ken Penn of SBOSS Montgomery. Hosted by REACH Women’s Business Center, a resource partner of SBOSS Montgomery, the Small Business One Stop Shop.
