    Time: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM CDT
    Event Description:

The City of Montgomery was awarded $3.9 Million by the Office of Minority Health (OMH) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in July 2021. The Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 grant seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of local government implementation of evidence-based health literacy strategies that are culturally appropriate to enhance COVID-19 testing, contact tracing, and/or other mitigation measures (e.g., public health prevention practices and vaccination) in racial and ethnic minority populations and other socially vulnerable populations, including racial and ethnic minority rural communities.

To accomplish the goals and objectives of the grant, the City of Montgomery and grant partners created the Central Alabama Neighborhood Health Initiative (CANHI) to collaboratively increase the rates of COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, increase health literacy, improve patient experience and patient-provider relations in Elmore, Montgomery, and Pike Counties.

We are excited to extend an invitation to you on behalf of the Central Alabama Neighborhood Health Initiative, in partnership with The Nehemiah Center and the City of Montgomery. We are thrilled to announce the upcoming Latino Cultural Health and Wellness event, scheduled to take place on November 4, 2023, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The primary focus of this event is to provide resources to address the Social Determinants of Health and promote healthy behaviors within our community. To achieve this, we have curated an array of activities and services, including but not limited to:

    1. Vendors that address at least one Social Determinant of Health

    2. Health and Wellness Vendors

    3. Health Professionals

    4. Covid-19 Testing Services

    5. Vaccination Clinics

    6. And much more

The Latino Cultural Health and Wellness event will be a vibrant tapestry of cultural richness dedicated to enhancing cultural awareness. A key element of this celebration is sharing authentic cultural food, arts, and entertainment. Attendees will have the opportunity to savor the delightful flavors of Latino cuisine, from mouthwatering tamales to savory empanadas, fostering an appreciation for the culinary traditions that unite communities across Latin America. The event will also showcase the diverse artistic expressions that define Latino culture, featuring captivating visual arts, live performances, and the infectious rhythms of Latin music. Through this immersive experience, the event aims to deepen cultural understanding and create an atmosphere of unity, celebrating the vital role of culture in health and wellness.
