    Alabama’s Capital City is also the Capital of Commerce

    New report ranks Montgomery #1 in Alabama for new jobs, with 1,704 jobs announced by new and expanding companies last year.

    Montgomery, AL, May 18 - In the 2016 New and Expanding Industries Report just released by the Alabama Department of Commerce, Montgomery led every other county in the state for announced jobs by new and expanding industries, with 1,704 jobs announced last year. Also highlighted in the report, Montgomery ranked second in terms of the number of economic development projects announced last year with a total of 42, and fourth in terms of the new capital investment those announcements generated, at $371 million.

    2016 was another strong year statewide for economic development, with 400 projects across diverse industries resulting in 14,707 new jobs and $4.2B in capital investment gained
    for Alabama.

    By the Numbers:
    Montgomery – First in Announced Jobs at 1,704 by new and expanding industry- followed by Madison County with 1,548; Jefferson at 1,469 and Baldwin at 961.

    Montgomery – Second in Economic Development Projects Announced with 42 projects. Jefferson County led with 45 projects, Cullman third with 40 projects, followed by Madison with 34 projects and Mobile with 16 projects.

    Montgomery – Fourth in new Capital Investment with $371.3M, with Jefferson County leading in capital investment at $505.6M; Calhoun in second with $398.2M; Baldwin in third with $394.5M.

    "Local communities depend on the Alabama Department of Commerce and the Governor to be our lead partners in economic development for the vital role they play in recruiting and retaining industries. These results show that the partnership is working," said Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange.

    Montgomery County Commission Chairman Elton Dean added, “We depend on the Chamber to be the economic development arm of the County and the City. When we speak here, we speak with one voice. And these announced new and expanding companies see the tremendous value in that.”
