June 5 – The Montgomery Regional Chamber officially launched the 2026 FuelAL: River Region Summer Internship Program on Thursday evening with a Welcome Night orientation at Montgomery Whitewater, bringing together interns, employers, and community leaders for an evening of networking, relationship-building, and celebration.

This year's FuelAL: River Region cohort includes 33 college interns representing 22 employers and 19 colleges and universities from across Alabama and beyond. Throughout the summer, participants will engage in professional development opportunities, networking events, leadership experiences, and community engagement activities designed to help them build meaningful connections, expand their professional networks, and deepen their understanding of the River Region.

During Welcome Night, interns had the opportunity to meet fellow participants and learn more about the experiences awaiting them throughout the summer. The event also introduced participants to the mission of FuelAL and the many ways they can become engaged in the community during their internship experience.

FuelAL is made possible through a partnership between the Montgomery Regional Chamber and Innovate Alabama as part of a statewide initiative focused on attracting, developing, and retaining college talent across Alabama. By connecting students with employers and communities, the program helps strengthen Alabama's workforce pipeline while showcasing the career opportunities and quality of life available throughout the state.

More than an internship program, FuelAL serves as a talent retention and workforce development initiative that encourages students to build lasting connections within the communities where they work. Through intentional engagement with local businesses, young professionals, and community leaders, participants gain valuable insight into the industries, opportunities, and relationships that make the River Region a great place to live, work, and build a career.
