Montgomery 8U All-Stars Bring Home Diamond Youth Baseball World Series Championship

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Montgomery has a new group of world champions to celebrate. 

The Montgomery 8U All-Stars captured the Diamond Youth Baseball Division I AA 8U Coach Pitch World Series Championship in Laurel, Mississippi, bringing home a national title after competing against teams representing communities from across the Southeast. 

The World Series brought together teams from 11 Southeastern states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. Throughout the tournament, Montgomery’s young athletes proudly represented Alabama’s capital city on the national stage, ultimately returning home as World Series Champions. 

The victory comes during an exciting period of growth for youth and amateur sports in Montgomery. Earlier this summer, the city welcomed the Diamond Youth Baseball Regional World Series to Lagoon Park, hosting 32 teams from five Southeastern states. The week-long tournament brought more than 500 athletes and coaches to the River Region and generated approximately 1,100 hotel room nights, providing a significant boost to Montgomery’s hospitality industry and local economy. 

That momentum will continue in July of 2027, when Montgomery hosts both the Diamond Youth Baseball Division 6U and 8U World Series, the same championship events in which the Montgomery 8U All-Stars competed and claimed the title this year. 

“This is the kind of story that makes our community proud,” said Ricky Phaturos, Alabama State Director, Diamond Youth Baseball. “These young athletes represented Montgomery on a major stage and came home as world champions. To know that next year Montgomery will have the opportunity to welcome Diamond Youth Baseball teams here to compete for that same title makes their accomplishment even more special.” 

The championship further underscores Montgomery’s growing reputation as a destination for youth and amateur sporting events. Continued investment in facilities such as Lagoon Park, combined with strong partnerships among local leaders, tourism partners, and sporting organizations, is positioning the capital city to compete for events that attract athletes, coaches and families from across the region and beyond. 

These events generate valuable overnight stays and visitor spending while supporting Montgomery’s hotels, restaurants, attractions, and businesses. They also provide opportunities to showcase the community to thousands of visitors who may be experiencing Montgomery for the first time. 

For the Montgomery 8U All-Stars, however, the championship is first and foremost a celebration of the players, coaches and families whose hard work, teamwork and dedication made a remarkable season possible. 

Community Celebration Planned for August 29 
The Montgomery community will have an opportunity to celebrate its hometown World Series Champions on Saturday, August 29, as the Montgomery Biscuits take on the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at DABOS Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. 

The celebration will recognize the Montgomery 8U players and coaches for their championship season and give the community an opportunity to congratulate the team on bringing a Diamond Youth Baseball World Series title home to the capital city. 

The championship provides an exciting preview of what lies ahead as Montgomery prepares to welcome Diamond Youth Baseball back in 2027, this time as the host city and home of the reigning Division I AA 8U Coach Pitch World Series Champions.
