New Taxiway Project to Complete Airfield Improvement Enhancements
(Montgomery, Alabama) – Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) officials announced today that they are preparing to enter the final phase of several projects on the airfield.
The recent $935,112 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will fund improvements to MGM's main taxiway, Taxiway Alpha. Upon completion, the Montgomery Regional Airport Authority will have refurbished all paving surfaces, a long-range project implemented almost 10 years ago.
Major improvements are planned on the east side taxiway including milling, three-inch paving and upgrades to create a new surface. Montgomery Regional Airport, Executive Director, Marshall J Taggart, Jr. said, “The upgrades to our aviation infrastructure will provide MGM with a competitive advantage in luring additional carriers. Taxiway Alpha enhances our airfield and completes the last round of significant improvements made over the past decade." Taggart added, “We are poised to begin serious conversations to attract additional air service to our airport.”
With the $935,112 AIP Grant, MGM has invested more than $33 Million in airport development projects.
