That’s exactly what the FuelAL River Region Summer 2026 Internship Program is designed to do.
FuelAL is a coordinated summer initiative created to enhance, not replace, existing internship experiences by connecting interns to the Capital Region’s business community, industries, and quality of place through intentional, high-impact programming.
Best of all, there is no cost for interns or participating Chamber partners to take part in the program.
Why FuelAL Matters
Internships remain one of the strongest predictors of post-graduation job placement and long-term career success. But beyond the day-to-day work experience, students also need opportunities to build professional skills, grow their networks, and develop a deeper connection to the community where they may one day choose to build their careers.
FuelAL helps bridge that gap.
By strengthening internship experiences across the River Region, the program plays a vital role in retaining top talent, strengthening our workforce pipeline, and supporting the long-term competitiveness of Montgomery and the surrounding region.
A Summer Experience Designed for Impact
FuelAL is intentionally built to complement the internship opportunities already being offered by local employers through programming focused on four key areas:
Professional Development
Interns gain access to tools and experiences that help prepare them for long-term success, including:
- Workplace readiness training
- Leadership development
- Networking opportunities
- Resume support
- Professional headshots
Participants receive behind-the-scenes access to major employers and key industries across the region, helping broaden their understanding of the many career pathways available in Montgomery.
Networking & Social Connection
FuelAL creates meaningful opportunities for interns to build relationships with peers, professionals, and community leaders through curated events such as:
- Summer Kickoff
- Professional Development
- Biscuits Night
- Peer networking events & more
Hands-on service opportunities with local nonprofits help interns connect with the community and develop a stronger sense of place in the River Region.

Investing in Tomorrow’s Talent Today

Together, we are fueling the next generation of leaders in the River Region.
