  • Fueling the Future: FuelAL River Region Summer 2026 Internship Program

    • Share:
As Montgomery and the River Region continue to grow, so does our commitment to building a strong, sustainable workforce for the future. One of the most impactful ways we can do that is by creating meaningful pathways for students and young professionals to connect with career opportunities right here in our region.

That’s exactly what the FuelAL River Region Summer 2026 Internship Program is designed to do.

FuelAL is a coordinated summer initiative created to enhance, not replace, existing internship experiences by connecting interns to the Capital Region’s business community, industries, and quality of place through intentional, high-impact programming.

Best of all, there is no cost for interns or participating Chamber partners to take part in the program.

    Why FuelAL Matters
Internships remain one of the strongest predictors of post-graduation job placement and long-term career success. But beyond the day-to-day work experience, students also need opportunities to build professional skills, grow their networks, and develop a deeper connection to the community where they may one day choose to build their careers.

    FuelAL helps bridge that gap.

By strengthening internship experiences across the River Region, the program plays a vital role in retaining top talent, strengthening our workforce pipeline, and supporting the long-term competitiveness of Montgomery and the surrounding region.

A Summer Experience Designed for Impact
FuelAL is intentionally built to complement the internship opportunities already being offered by local employers through programming focused on four key areas:
    Professional Development

Interns gain access to tools and experiences that help prepare them for long-term success, including:
    • Workplace readiness training
    • Leadership development
    • Networking opportunities
    • Resume support
    • Professional headshots
    Industry Exposure
Participants receive behind-the-scenes access to major employers and key industries across the region, helping broaden their understanding of the many career pathways available in Montgomery.

    Networking & Social Connection
FuelAL creates meaningful opportunities for interns to build relationships with peers, professionals, and community leaders through curated events such as:
    • Summer Kickoff
    • Professional Development
    • Biscuits Night
    • Peer networking events & more
    Community Engagement
Hands-on service opportunities with local nonprofits help interns connect with the community and develop a stronger sense of place in the River Region.

    How Chamber Partners Can Support
Chamber partners play an important role in the success of FuelAL and can support the program by:
    • Identifying planned summer internships within their organization
    • Nominating interns to participate in FuelAL River Region
    • Sharing feedback to help tailor programming to industry-specific needs
We are actively working with employers to align FuelAL programming with their internship experiences, ensuring a more cohesive and impactful summer for every participant.

    How Students Can Participate
Students interested in joining the Summer 2026 FuelAL Intern Program can participate by:
    • Securing a local internship with a participating employer in the River Region
    • Applying through the program’s application link below
    • Attending FuelAL programming and networking events throughout the summer
Through these experiences, students will have the opportunity to connect with business leaders, peers, and community partners while gaining a stronger understanding of the opportunities available in the River Region.

    Investing in Tomorrow’s Talent Today
FuelAL is more than a summer program, it is an investment in the future of our region.

By helping interns build professional skills, deepen community connections, and explore long-term career pathways, we are creating stronger ties between emerging talent and the employers who need them most.

Together, we are fueling the next generation of leaders in the River Region.

Those interested in participating in the program may apply online now through May 31. For more information, visit FuelAL or contact Sandra Kelley at SKelley@montgomerychamber.com
