Building Regional Momentum: Washington Brief with Congressman Shomari Figures
July 31 — The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted U.S. Congressman Shomari Figures (AL-2) as part of our ongoing Washington Brief series. This signature platform connects our members with federal leaders on the issues that matter most to the Capital Region.
Washington Briefs are designed to do more than inform—they help align priorities, build relationships, and accelerate the projects that move our region forward. By bringing elected officials face-to-face with Montgomery’s business, civic, and military leadership, these conversations reinforce a shared commitment to economic growth, quality of life, and national security.
Through this series, the Chamber continues to build coalitions around key priorities—like infrastructure, talent, innovation, and defense assets—that fuel long-term prosperity. It’s part of our broader mission to ensure Montgomery and the River Region are not only heard in Washington, but positioned for meaningful results.
Congressman Figures, in his first term serving Alabama’s 2nd District, spoke candidly about the challenges of Washington and his commitment to bringing back real results for the district. He also voiced strong support for Maxwell Air Force Base, the Montgomery Regional Airport runway project, and the Maxwell Gateway Project—key initiatives the Chamber is working closely with regional and federal partners to advance.
This Washington Brief served as another powerful reminder of what’s possible when business and government work together. Progress happens at the speed of partnership—and the Chamber is proud to keep driving these conversations forward.
