City Partners with Hands-On River Region to Offer Free Masks TOMORROW, May 1st, at Three Montgomery Locations

The City of Montgomery, thanks to an initiative spurred by Mayor Steven L. Reed’s Community Impact Task Force, will partner with Hands-On River Region to offer free masks to residents Friday at a few convenient locations across town.

“As our city and our state begin the process of reopening, we urge everyone to take appropriate precautions by continuing to practice healthy hygiene routines,” Mayor Reed said. “Wearing masks or face coverings in public places is one way we can all do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19. We understand that some members of our community have limited access to masks as well as the required household supplies to make homemade face coverings, which is why we are partnering with the Community Impact Task Force and Hands-On River Region to bridge this gap.”

The masks will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at three Montgomery locations: Emory Folmar Soccer Complex (300 Brown Springs Road), Montgomery Zoo (2301 Coliseum Parkway) and Carver High School (2001 W. Fairview Avenue). Each location will have about 1,250 masks, but organizers will limit distributions to two masks per vehicle.

They will offer drive-thru-like system to ensure proper social-distancing takes place. 

Friday’s event coincides with the first full day of Alabama’s new Safer at Home order. The order recommends people wear masks inside of public places and when social distancing might be a challenge. Organizers hope this event not only promotes the use of face coverings in public, but that it will improve access for Montgomery’s most vulnerable residents.
