Everyone Can Skate: An Adaptive Ice-Skating Event

Montgomery Whitewater, in partnership with the Lakeshore Foundation, will host Everyone Can Skate, an adaptive ice-skating event designed to ensure individuals of all abilities can experience ice skating in a supportive, accessible environment. The event features specialized adaptive equipment, on-site support staff, and scholarship access for youth with disabilities.

Access to outdoor recreation remains a barrier for many individuals with physical disabilities. Everyone Can Skate is part of a broader, ongoing inclusivity partnership between Montgomery Whitewater and the Lakeshore Foundation aimed at expanding adaptive recreation opportunities in Central Alabama. This event demonstrates how community partnerships can remove barriers, normalize inclusive recreation, and create meaningful experiences for families and participants of all abilities.
 
Event Details

• Two adaptive skating sessions will be held on Saturday, March 7th
  • 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Lakeshore Foundation will provide adaptive equipment including skate sleds, sticks, gloves, and helmets.
• Skate sleds are designed for individuals with lower-body disabilities, featuring molded bucket seats mounted on lightweight frames with adjustable blade spacing for stability and control.
• Youth (18 & under) with physical disabilities may participate through an adaptive scholarship made possible by a grant from ESPN.
