This group will implement a variety of programs to prepare area students for a higher wage, skilled work environment that is growing in Montgomery. The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce believes that improved infrastructure is a top priority critical to economic development and the overall quality of life of citizens. Rebuild Alabama will help fund projects across the state, fueling job growth and ensuring that the Montgomery region is able to successfully compete for new business, better support military and defense missions, strengthen existing small and large businesses, enhance tourism growth, and support the workforce. The Governor’s plan is a long-term solution to improve transportation infrastructure and will help to leverage federal funding opportunities for further infrastructure investment. The Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA), Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce, and The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama support the legislation to strengthen Alabama’s infrastructure. Sessions on cloud computing, cybersecurity, website design, robotics and more were given by industry leaders for students to learn, participate and engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Information Technology activities. This year’s event also featured an announcement by Alabama State University, the hosting educational institution of the upcoming Montgomery BEST Robotics Competition to be held from October 18-19, 2019. It will feature fiber optic infrastructure and an expansion of the Open Data Portal, free public Wi-Fi in downtown areas, conversion of street lights to LED, a public safety initiative and deployment of smart parking solutions. Montgomery leaders announced the smart corridor will be formalized through the creation of the Montgomery Smart Community Alliance, a public-private partnership focused on advancing smart city initiatives in the City of Montgomery. The $546,688,066 in capital investments is the largest investment number for Montgomery County since Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama announced the selection of Montgomery over 15 years ago. It is the second largest number since the Chamber began to maintain records 25 years ago. These partnerships, which include a $37M investment to acquire the F-35 Fighter for the 187th Fighter Wing at Dannelly Field, have helped secure more than 8,300 existing local jobs.
