City of Montgomery Gains Momentum in Blight Removal Efforts with HUD Clearance for Hotel Demolitions

MONTGOMERY, AL — The City of Montgomery is moving forward in its fight against blight with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) granting clearance to begin demolition activities at two long-abandoned properties: Candlelight Hotel (1110 W. South Blvd) and Days Inn (4243 Inn South Ave). These demolitions mark a significant step in revitalizing our community and building momentum toward a brighter future.
 

Bidding for demolition contractors is expected to open in mid-February, with demolition anticipated to begin in March.
 

This progress is made possible through a $4 million HUD grant, championed by Congresswoman Terri Sewell, which required meeting several prerequisites before approval. The grant underscores the City’s commitment to addressing blight and fostering economic development.
