It is the goal of the Chamber's Military Affairs
branch to foster a pro-business climate in the Montgomery
area through proactive governmental and military affairs
initiatives; maintain and enhance the business community's
relationship with Maxwell-Gunter
Air Force Base, the 754th Electronics System Group (ELSG), Air National Guard and Armed Forces
reserve units; and protect and grow Maxwell-Gunter
and other Department of Defense (DoD) operations in
the River Region.
Montgomery has a long history with Maxwell-Gunter
and the development of powered flight. In fact,
2003 marks the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight,
and Montgomery and the Chamber of Commerce will
play an active part in the celebration of this landmark
achievement.
In addition to Maxwell-Gunter, Montgomery enjoys
a strong partnership with the Air
Force Reserve and Air
National Guard.
The relationship between Montgomery and its military
partners is among the best anywhere in the United
States. Senior Air Force leaders continue to praise
the excellent relationship between the city and
Maxwell-Gunter as the best in the Air Force. The
blend in the business world of civilian and military
personnel at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, working
side-by-side to meet a common goal and purpose,
exemplifies the military-civilian interaction in
the community as well.
The Chamber's Military Affairs initiative is a
full-time effort led by elected and business leadership
and spearheaded by the Chamber's professional staff.
The Montgomery area's support of its military community
is legendary.
The Wright Flyers is a membership-based committee
made up of the leading business and elected officials
in the Montgomery area. The Wright Flyers functions
as a liaison and support group between the local
military and business community, implementing programs
that provide greater interaction between DOD/military
personnel and Chamber members and promote and sustain
growth of the DOD presence in the Montgomery area.
The Wright Flyers hosts a variety
of events throughout the year that honor and
promote military and community service.
MGM Forum is another military initiative by the
Chamber. These forums are responsible for bringing
Chamber members together for exposure to the activities
and missions of Maxwell-Gunter AFB.
The MGM Partners program pairs Maxwell-Gunter leaders
with counterparts from the business community. These
partners share social as well as business time together.
The Partners program serves as a valuable resource
for integrating the military and civilian communities.
Project Interface matches 20 civilian couples or
families with Air War College seminars. These Interface
partners then provide reciprocal social outings
and interactions that make the seminar leaders and
participants feel at home while residents of the
Montgomery area.
